What to provide: whatever you’ve got. A drawing, a model, a photo of the broken part, a sketch, or just a description of what the thing needs to do. Photos with a tape measure in frame beat a paragraph. Quantity (one is normal), material if you know it, and when you need it. If you don’t know the material or the tolerances, that’s a normal question and part of what you’re hiring for.
File types: Native SolidWorks or Fusion, or STEP, IGES, Parasolid, DXF, PDF etc…
